The Farrs

Elizabeth Farr was one of my 3xgreat grandmothers. She married my 3xgreat grandfather James Puddle in 1849. To read more about the Puddle family, click here:

Elizabeth Farr was born in 1829 in a croft called Thornglat in St Devereux, Herefordshire to William Farr & Elizabeth (nee Walters).

William Farr was a labourer and together with his wife Mary they had 7 children. William & Mary had married in 1815 in St Devereux and had their first child (William Farr) the same year.

Sadly William's wife Mary died in 1837, aged only 44, leaving him with a young family. By 1841 though the children had all grown up enough to have left home and be working. Even his youngest surviving daughter Elizabeth Farr was employed as a servant in nearby Abbey Dore, aged just 13. William was still living alone in St Devereux, now at a place called Criesley. In 1851 and 1861 he was living alone in nearby Wormbridge, just a couple of miles from his son James Farr. When he died in 1868, the informant on the death certificate was Jane Farr his daughter-in-law who was present at the time of death, suggesting that he was living with his son at the end.

According to the censuses, William Farr was born in Much Birch sometime in the 1790s. The only birth of a William Farr which fits this, is of William born in 1792 in Much Birch to James & Elizabeth Farr.

I think James Farr is probably the one who married Elizabeth Yeates in 1775 in Clodock, but I need to check this out further. So for the time being I've not put this on the family tree below. There are potentially lots of Farr descendants out there, particularly through James Farr & Jane Lewis; it would be lovely to hear from some Farr cousins.

The family tree below summarises what I know about the Farr family. It is hopefully reasonably accurate, but if you spot any errors, or any relatives, please feel free to E-mail me

Please click on one of the red links on the tree to move to a different page.
